STEP 1

  • Contact your Regional broker as soon as possible.
  • Take reasonable steps to minimise your loss.
  • Record or photograph damage, noting that a loss adjuster may need to assess damaged property before cleanup begins, so avoid disposing of items if you can.
  • Do not admit liability as this could prejudice your claim.
  • Do not wait for quotes or documents to support your claim before submitting; these can be obtained later.

STEP 2
Discuss the incident with your account manager

Before submitting a claim or completing a claim form, discuss the circumstances with your account manager. Our account managers are always available to offer advice on claims management and notification procedures. Report any claim or circumstance that may give rise to a claim as soon as possible.

STEP 3
Check your policy excess

Determine whether excess applies and if the claim falls under your policy excess. Sometimes, below-excess claims can develop into insurable losses and may need to be reported to your insurer as a material fact. Check your policy or talk with your account manager about your policy excess.

STEP 4
Submit the necessary claim forms

Your account manager will provide the necessary claim forms and offer guidance on completing them if required. Ensure you provide all relevant details to facilitate a smooth claims process.

STEP 5
Cooperate with your loss adjuster

Once your claim is lodged, your insurer will often appoint a loss adjuster to investigate the circumstances of the event. Always ask for identification and ensure they represent your insurer before providing any information regarding an incident.
